Nest Protect is constantly monitoring its sensors and batteries. When you turn out the lights for the night, Nest Protect will briefly glow green to let you know everything is working, and that your batteries are at a safe level. The battery level is easily accessible from the main screen of the Nest apps.

When Nest Protect (Battery) has less than about a year of battery life remaining, it will give you a warning that the batteries are getting low. Nest Protect will pulse yellow when you turn off the lights at night and after you press the Nest button it will say: “Nest Protect Battery is low. Replace it soon.” You will also receive a notification on your Nest app.

Nest Protect will pulse yellow again and send you a second warning in the Nest app with a few months of battery life left. When Nest Protect (Battery) has only a few weeks of battery life left, it will chirp until the batteries are replaced.

Nightly Promise will glow yellow and let you know the battery is getting low.

Your Nest Protect will need new batteries in the coming months.

Pathlight is off until the batteries have been replaced.

In case of a power outage Nest Protect (Wired 120V) uses its backup batteries to keep all of its features up and running. If the Nest Protect backup battery is low, the Nest Protect light ring will glow yellow. When you press the Nest button, Nest Protect will say: “Nest Protect battery is low. Replace it soon.”

We designed Nest Protect (Wired 120V) for multiple years of battery life. If you have a consistent source of power the backup batteries should last the life of the alarm.
