Article Summary:
If you move a Nest Protect to another room in your house or it has the wrong name, you can update the name from the Nest app.
The process is simple and can be done from the Nest app. Once you're logged in to your Nest Account, follow these steps:
1. Select Protect from the home screen.
2. Select the Settings icon in the upper right corner.
3. Select the name of the Nest Protect that you'd like to rename.
4. Select Where.
5. Select Where again.
Custom room names can be added using the Custom selection at the bottom of the list.
1. Select Protect from the home screen.
2. Select the Settings icon in the upper right corner.
3. Select the name of the Nest Protect that you'd like to rename.
4. Select Where.
5. Select Label.
From here you can select where your Nest Protect is installed from a list of room names.
If you'd like, you can also give your Nest Protect a label to help you identify each Nest Protect within the Nest app. Here's how:
Once you've made your changes in the Nest app, press the Nest button once on the Nest Protect you updated. Nest Protect will then connect to the Internet and update its settings. If you don't press the Nest button, it may take as long as 24 hours for your Nest Protect to be updated with the new information.
Important note: If Nest Protect sounds a Heads-Up or Emergency Alarm, it will announce the name of the room where it's installed (Master Bedroom, Kids Room, etc.). It will not speak a custom room name or a label. Labels will show up in the Nest app to help you identify your Nest Protects.
