In order to set the local time and determine the weather forecast, the Nest Learning Thermostat needs to know it’s geographical location, which is chosen during setup or can be added or changed in Settings at any time. The Nest Thermostat supports time zone and weather data for all of the countries where it is sold, in addition to many other countries worldwide.


When you set up your the Nest Thermostat, Nest will first try to find its location automatically - no matter where you are in the world - by using your thermostat's IP address. If the location that your thermostat has found is correct, choose YES.

Most of the time, your Nest Thermostat will find your exact country, city and ZIP or postal code. In some places, it will only find your country, or country and city, but not your ZIP or postal code. If that happens, you'll need to enter your ZIP or postal code manually.

If the location that Nest has found is not correct, or if you haven't connected your Nest Thermostat to Wi-Fi, you can set your location manually. First you'll choose your continent, then your country and ZIP or postal code.

Your location will appear in the SETTINGS menu. It can be changed at any time here or with the Nest app. Nest will use this location to pull data from an online weather service to provide weather forecasts and weather dependent features.
