Article Summary:
We’ve made many improvements to the Nest app 5.0. including Nest Cam support, bug fixes, security updates and more. Because of this, current Nest customers with Android devices will need to manually download the new 5.0 app from Google Play. Here’s what you need to know.

If you're new to Nest, you can simply download the 5.0 version of the Nest app from Google Play. This article only applies to customers who already have the Nest app installed on their Android phone or tablet.

For current Nest customers, if you have automatic updates enabled on your Android phone or tablet, you may have noticed that the Nest app icon is now gray and the name has changed to Nest 4.5. When you first launch this version of the Nest App you'll see a message that asks you to update to a new version (Nest 5.0) via the Google Play Store. This is because we made some improvements to the app that require a manual download.

Simply tap "Get the App" in the message or go to Google Play to download the 5.0 version. After you've downloaded the 5.0 app, you'll see two Nest app icons on your device: the gray one named Nest 4.5 and a new blue one simply named Nest. After downloading the new 5.0 version you can delete the gray 4.5 version.

If you don't have auto updates enabled, you'll see two versions of the Nest app when you go to the Google Play Store: version 5.0 and version 4.5. Simply download the 5.0 version to get all the new features and improvements. You don't need to download 4.5.

However, if you are using an older Android operating system, you can update to version 4.5 (with the gray icon). You won't see a message to get the new 5.0 app because you're using an older incompatible version of Android. Other than that, nothing will change.
