When you set up and connect Nest Protect to Wi-Fi for the first time it scans for available networks. If your Wi-Fi network isn’t showing up on the list of available networks, these steps will help you get connected.


Note: Hidden Wi-Fi networks are not supported with Nest Protect.

Check the documentation that came with your router or wireless access point to verify that you’re not using it in a 5GHz-only mode.

1) Confirm your Wi-Fi network is broadcasting your network name (SSID).

Check the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone or network preferences on your computer to see if the network name (SSID) is visible.

2) Is your router set up to support Nest Protect?

Nest Protect connects to the Internet using the 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz networks and won’t be able to find your network if it’s set up to be in 5GHz-only mode.

3) Is Nest Protect within range of your wireless access point?

Move Nest Protect closer to your wireless access point to ensure it’s within range of your Wi-Fi network.

4) Is your wireless access point close enough to Nest Protect?

Move your wireless access point closer to Nest Protect.

5) Expand the range of your Wi-Fi router

Add additional wireless access points to extend the broadcast range of your network.
