Article Summary:
Here’s how to connect your Nest Protect to a hidden wireless network.

Some people like to keep their Wi-Fi network hidden as an extra measure of personal security. Nest Protect supports hidden networks, so you can keep your Wi-Fi network invisible from prying eyes and enjoy all the connected benefits of Nest Protect, such as emergency notifications sent to your phone, automatic software updates, and more.

Connecting your Nest Protect to a hidden network is similar to connecting to one you can see in the list. During setup, you'll simply type the name (SSID) of the hidden network instead of picking it from the list on your mobile device. Here's how:

Note: If you don't know it, you can usually check by logging into your Wi-Fi router with your web browser or by using the software it came with. Please see the manufacturer's documentation for specific instructions.

1. Make sure you have the latest version of the Nest app. You can download it for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

2. During setup, the Nest app will ask you for your Wi-Fi network information. Select Other Network at the bottom of the screen.

3. Type in the name of your hidden network.

4. Enter your network's security type.

5. Then enter the password.

That's it. Your Nest Protect will connect to your Wi-Fi network and the Nest app will guide you through the rest of setup.

Note: If you have already set up your Nest Protect and you want to connect it to a hidden network, you'll need to go through setup with the Nest app again.
