You should manually disable cellular data before you set up your Nest Protect. Once you're done with setup, you can re-enable it.

For iOS devices, go to Settings > Cellular and turn off the Cellular Data switch at the top of the screen.

Note: If your device is running a custom version of the Android OS, your menus may be different. For instance, on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, you'll need to go to Wi-Fi Settings> Advanced and uncheck Auto network switch.

Automatic network switching options should be also disabled or your Android device may not be able to connect to your Nest Protect.

Go to Wi-Fi settings and select Advanced from the menu. Again, your Android device's settings menus may be different.

You may need to power down and restart your Android device for these changes to take effect. After restart, double-check that Wi-Fi is enabled.

2. Press the Home button to switch out of the Nest app. Open the iOS Settings app and select Wi-Fi.

You will see a checkmark next to the Nest ad hoc network when you have connected to it.

Note: If you don't see the ad hoc network, press the Nest button on the Nest Protect again, when you see the light ring glow blue the network should appear in your device's Wi-Fi list. You can also switch your iPhone's Wi-Fi off then on again to force refreshing the list of available networks.

Note: After joining the ad hoc network, you will not see a Wi-Fi icon in the top left of the screen. You will only see a 4G or 3G icon until pairing is fully completed.

Tap to select your home Wi-Fi network.

Important note: If your Wi-Fi network isn't appearing in the list of available networks, here are some troubleshooting tips. If you have hidden your network for security purposes, read the article below:
