Article Summary:
While Wi-Fi and a Nest account are required to interconnect multiple Nest Protects, if your Wi-Fi connection is lost at any time, all your Nest Protects will remain interconnected. And once they are interconnected, they do not rely on Wi-Fi for this feature. However, if your Wi-Fi goes down, you will not receive mobile notifications.
Wireless Interconnect means that when one Nest Protect gives you any kind of alarm, other Nest Protects in the house will also go into alarm. For example, if you’re in the bedroom and the alarm goes off in the basement, the Nest Protect in the bedroom will relay that alarm to you. This feature must be set up using Wi-Fi and a Nest Account. However, once set up, it will work even without Wi-Fi in your home, since it operates on a different wireless protocol.
What is Wireless Interconnect?
Wireless Interconnect will not work with other brands of alarms. For your safety, use the same brand of smoke / carbon monoxide alarm throughout your home.
Wi-Fi is required during initial setup
In order to configure your Nest Protects and enable interconnect, you must have Wi-Fi, an iOS or Android mobile phone, and a Nest account. Many features of your Nest Protect will not work unless you have these requirements.
What features will be unavailable if Wi-Fi is lost?
After installation, if Wi-Fi is lost, you will no longer be able to get messages and notifications, view status, or update settings using the Nest app or the Web.
