Article Summary:
After setup, it is possible Nest Protect will chirp or notify you in the app that the batteries are low. If this happens, it just means that the batteries’ voltage temporarily dropped during the setup process. It should return to normal after a few hours of rest.
Wi-Fi communication uses a lot of power. So if it takes longer than expected to connect your new Nest Protect to your Wi-Fi network and add it to your Nest Account, its batteries will have to use a lot of power. But after a short period of rest, their levels will come back up. This happens with lots of types of batteries. For instance, if you repeatedly try to start your car but the engine doesn't turn on after a few tries, you may need to wait for a little while to give your car battery a chance to recover power.

If you get a message in your app right after you've added your Nest Protect to your Nest Account, but you don't hear a chirp, you can just mount it and wait a day or two and see if the issue resolves itself.
