Quick tips

To see the status of your Nest Protects, select the Protect icon on the Nest app home screen. You'll see the status of each of your Protects.

Tap on one of your Protects, and you'll see a pop-up showing you any carbon monoxide or smoke alarms, battery and sensor status, as well as the date and time of the last test and Internet connection.

Nest Protect Settings

1. Select Protect from the Home screen.
2. Select the Settings icon (shaped like a gear) in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. Select a Protect to access its settings.

You can also select What To Do and Alarm options for information on what will happen in case of an emergency.

Here you can edit the name of your Nest Protect and add an optional description to help you identify it.

Here you’ll see the different Nest Protect features. You can turn On or Off Pathlight, Nightly Promise, Steam Check, and Heads-Up.

View details about your Nest Protect, including:

  • Model
  • Serial number
  • Software version
  • Battery life
  • Replace by date
  • Last update date
  • Wi-Fi MAC address
  • Wi-Fi IP address
  • 802.15.4 MAC address

If you own any Nest Cams, they will automatically start recording in the case of an alarm. Even if you do not have Nest Aware with Video History. This way, if there is an emergency and you need video footage, you'll have it.

To get to your Nest Protect's settings, follow these steps:

In Settings, you can change the location and label of your Nest Protect, turn on or off individual features such as Pathlight or remove your Nest Protect from your account. You can also view your Nest Protect's Technical info.
