Article Summary:
The Nest Home Report is a monthly email sent out by Nest summarizing your heating and cooling usage, safety events, and other information about your home and Nest products. If you’re not receiving your reports, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take.

In order to receive your first Nest Home Report, you'll need:

  • A Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Protect that is connected to Wi-Fi.
  • A Nest Account with a verified email address that is associated with your Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Protect.
  • The "Contact me about my Nest usage" option in the Nest app option is set to ON

Once you've received a first report, you should receive a new one in the first or second week of each following month.

Here are some things to check if you're not receiving your report.

Have you verified your Nest Account email address?

If you haven't verified the email address associated with your Nest Account, we won't send out your Nest Home Report.

You can easily tell if you've done this by logging into your account with the Nest app or on the Web. If your email address has not been verified, there will be a orange banner across the top of the screen when you log in.

Just click or tap on that banner and check your email to go through the process of verifying your email address. Once it's been verified, you should start receiving the Nest Home Reports.

Check your Nest Account settings

In order to receive the Nest Home Report, you'll need to have the "Contact me about my Nest usage." option set to ON.

To check this, log into your Nest Account and click or tap on the menu icon in the upper right of the screen, then select Account and then Emails from Nest.

Check your junk or spam folder

The Nest Home Report is sent to qualifying Nest Accounts from the email address "account@nest.com." If your email client is set to mark all email coming from unknown email addresses as junk, you may need to add our email address to your contacts or address book. Refer to your email client's documentation for specific information on how it handles junk mail and how to add a new contact.

Some email services may automatically block our emails, so they won't even make it to your spam folder. In cases like this, adding account@nest.com to your address book probably won't solve the issue. You may have to add our email address to a separate whitelist or authorized senders list. If you're not sure how to do that, contact your email's support or administrator to get help.

If you still have trouble getting email from Nest, try another email address from a different email provider. To change your email address, log into your Nest Account, and follow these steps:

  • Select the menu icon in the upper right.
  • Select the Account icon (the silhouette of a person at the top of the window).
  • Select Settings.
  • Select Change Email.
  • Enter the new email address and your current password.

If the new email address doesn't work, switch back to your original email address. This may solve the problem if it was originally set up incorrectly.

If you're still not receiving the report, contact our support team.

Check your Wi-Fi connection

If your Nest Thermostat or Nest Protect isn't connected to Wi-Fi or is having intermittent connectivity problems, there may be some missing information in your Home Report. We need a full month of data in order to send you a full report.

To check that your Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Protect is currently connected to Wi-Fi, simply look on the Nest app's home screen.

Troubleshooting the Nest Learning Thermostat's Wi-Fi connection

To check the last time that your Nest Protect connected to Wi-Fi and the Internet, open the Nest app and tap on the Nest Protect you want to check. You'll see when it last connected next to Last update.

Troubleshooting Nest Protect's Wi-Fi connection

You can also tell if your Nest Thermostat or Nest Protect is having intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity problems by viewing your Energy or Safety History on the Web or with the Nest app. If there are days labeled "No Data," your Nest Thermostat or Protect may be having problems staying connected.

Is your HVAC system powered off?

If you turn off all power to your HVAC system in seasons when it’s not used (for instance if you only have heating and turn it off during the summer), you’ll still receive a shorter report that explains we don’t have enough data to give you a full report.

Note: If your HVAC system is off but you also have a Nest Protect, your Home Report will be shorter, but it will include all the safety information available from your Protect, as well as safety tips and facts.
