Nest software updates happen automatically when your Nest Thermostat is connected to Wi-Fi. The updates don’t start installing until the thermostat finishes the current cooling or heating cycle. During the update, your heating or cooling will not turn on and interrupt the update. The updates take about 2-3 minutes to complete.
If you restart your Nest Thermostat, heating or cooling will be paused for the duration of the restart, about one minute. The thermostat automatically resumes heating or cooling after a software update is installed or after it is restarted.
