Article Summary:
Discover how the Nest Learning Thermostat works in an office or small business.
To use the Nest Learning Thermostat to save energy in an office or small business, select “business” during the set up interview. After setup, teach the Nest Thermostat just as you would in a home: turn the Nest Thermostat to a comfortable temperature during business hours and turn the it down at the end of the work day. After your Nest Thermostat has learned your schedule and activated its energy savings features, you can use Auto-Away, Time-to-Temperature and the Nest Leaf to help you save more energy.
It can be hard to save energy in an office where people are in and out all day. However, Auto-Away saves energy when the office is unexpectedly empty--for offsite meetings or an extended lunch break. If there’s a reason that you don’t want Auto-Away to go into effect during the business day, simply switch it off in Nest Learning Settings.
When people are in and out, they don’t always pay attention to how high or low they’ve set the thermostat. Time-to-Temperature and the Nest Leaf help people choose energy saving temperatures.
You can control the temperatures that others can set in your office or business with Nest’s Thermostat Lock feature. Thermostat Lock locks the thermostat so that adjustments can only be made within a range of temperatures. To change the range of allowable temperatures, view or change the schedule or access Settings, the owner must input a PIN number.
Use the Nest app or the Web to monitor your small business. You can put your Nest Thermostat into Away mode remotely, or use the Nest app or Web to check that your cheese shop is staying cool while you’re at the beach. If you have a Nest Thermostat at home too, you can use the same Nest Account for your home and your business, since the Nest app and website supports up to two buildings.
